Honoring Dr. Earl Lynn Horton

Dr. Earl Lynn Horton

Dr. Horton was born in 1946 in Kannapolis, NC and graduated from George Washington Carver School (Grades 1-12) in 1964. Dr. Horton graduated with honors from Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. While attending Livingstone College, he was a member of the Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society, Basileus of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Student Body Vice-President from 1966-1967. During his junior and senior year, Dr. Horton was selected by the Biology Department to head his own research lab. During the summer of 1966, Earl interned with Sterling Winthrop Research Institute, a pharmaceutical research company in Rensselaer, NY. After graduation from Livingstone, Dr. Horton worked for Sterling Winthrop Research Institute as a Research Associate for a short period before attending Albany Medical College in Albany, NY and graduating in 1973. In 1973 Dr. Horton began his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Rochester – Rochester, NY. Dr. Horton was Chief Resident from July 1976 – June 1977.


Upon completing his residency, Dr. Horton obtained his medical licenses in both Washington, DC and Maryland. He then began private practice in Washington, DC. Dr. Horton had hospital affiliations with Columbia Hospital for Women, Sibley Memorial Hospital and George University Hospital. Dr. Horton obtained board certification in 1982 from the American College in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Horton served on a numerous hospital committee and was a member of the Board of Physicians of Columbia Hospital.

In 2005, Dr. Horton accepted a position with the University of Maryland in Baltimore, MD and served on their Board of Physicians. In 2013, Dr. Horton accepted a position with Chase Braxton Health Services until his retirement.


Dr. Horton has four children; Ben Horton (attorney), Allyson Horton (commercial interior designer), Marissa Horton ( Artist in dance and theater) and Chloe Horton (conservation biologist).
